Welcome to the South Sudan Orphan Education website!
SSOE was formed to give assistance to South Sudan and specifically the village of Abyei Achok (in Cueibet County, Lakes State, in the Bahr el Ghazal region of South Sudan) with educational resources.
Originally we planned to send books, pencils and other educational material to existing schools. However, we were soon made aware that what the village really needs is a school building. They literally have nowhere to store any materials we might send. Children are taught out in the open under the trees and many children are not able to go to school at all.
We have responded to the call from the Abyei Achok community and are seeking support from the Australian community to help us to build a primary school there. This will be a major challenge and it will only come to fruition with strong support from the Australian community. Bringing a project like this to a successful conclusion will take time and a lot of effort. We would hope that supporters of this project will find ways to help SSOE to achieve this goal, whether it be by making an individual contribution or by conducting small scale events that are able to engage the wider community.
To keep up with developments in the school project and our activities here in Australia just check in at this website from time to time. Whatever announcements we make, great or small, you will find on this website. Members, additionally, will receive timely updates on all these matters.
South Sudan Orphan Education was formerly known as Sudan Orphan Education Support. In May 2014 it became necessary to clarify that our area of operations is limited to South Sudan.
